Solomon’s Knot is “one of the UK’s most innovative and imaginative ensembles” (The Observer). We are an international, flexible and award-winning Baroque collective of world-class instrumentalists and singers who bring old music to new life by pushing the limits of what is possible on stage and breaking the barriers between us and our audience.
Performing as a chamber ensemble without conductor in a way described as “little short of miraculous” (The Tablet), we rely on the collective intelligence and 360º musicianship of our performers to create a unique collaborative bond on stage. Building on this, our singers perform everything from memory, fostering an intense, heightened communication and creating a more theatrical and immersive experience.
We have memorised all of the major vocal works of JS Bach, as well as a host of other repertoire, and are regular guests of international Baroque festivals across Europe and North America. Resident at London’s Wigmore Hall since 2023, we also appear regularly at Bachfest Leipzig, Festival International Bach Montréal, Händel-Festspiele Halle, Bachwoche Ansbach, Thüringer Bachwochen, Tage Alter Musik Regensburg, Internationales Bachfest Schaffhausen, De Singel Antwerp, London Handel Festival, Britten Pears Arts, York Early Music, London International Festival of Early Music, Cambridge Early Music and Stour Music. We have also appeared at BBC Proms, Barbican Centre, Das alte Werk (Hamburg), Concertgebouw Brugge, De Bijloke Gent, and the Magdeburger Telemann-Festtage.
Collaboration is at the heart of our group’s ethos, working with stage directors, visual artists, ensembles, composers, and choreographers to challenge ourselves and learn from what they do. These have included Tim Carroll, Federay Holmes, Tom Guthrie, John La Bouchardière, James Hurley, Sven Werner, Mira Calix, Finnish Baroque Orchestra, Spira mirabilis and Les Passions de l’Ame.
We have a build a catalogue of award-winning audio and visual recordings. In 2019 we released our debut CD with Sony Classical, Magnificat, featuring festive music by Schelle, Kuhnau and JS Bach. Our opera production L’ospedale – a 17th-century medical farce – is available on DVD and to stream through our website. Collaborating with the Swiss label Prospero Classical, we released Bach Motets in 2023, George Jeffreys: Lost Majesty (German Quarterly Critics’ Choice) in 2024, and Bach’s Horns (Gramophone Editor’s Choice) in 2025.
We regularly publish excerpts from our live performances on our YouTube channel, and hope to welcome you at a performance soon.
